The Sommeliers

Maria E. Denton, CWE CSS (US)

Food and Beverage Training Manager at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, just outside Washington, DC in National Harbor, Maryland.

Maria has spent her entire career working with beverage, from her start as a bartender during her college years, working as a beverage manager for several restaurant groups including Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Clyde’s Restaurant Group, and in wholesale with such brands as Moët Hennessey and Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Spirits, among others. 
Her credentials include Certified Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers, Certified Wine Educator and Certified Specialist of Spirits with the Society of Wine Educators, Wine and Spirits Education Trust Level Three in Wine, and Level One Cicerone. Maria also sat on the Board of Directors of the Society of Wine Educators from 2008 to 2014.

David D. Denton, CWE, CSS, IBWE (US)

David Denton works as a sommelier at the prestigious Cut by Wolfgang Puck in Washington, DC.  Known for his keen palate, he has built a reputation as the sommelier in demand for high-profile wine events, including WineFuture 2009 and 2011, Vinoble 2010, and every SWE Annual Conference from 2007 to 2015. 

At WineFuture 2011, David was responsible for three grand tastings of over 1000 people each, for Pancho Campo, Jancis Robinson, and Robert Parker. 

His credentials include Advanced Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers, Certified Wine Educator and Certified Specialist of Spirits with the Society of Wine Educators, International Bordeaux Wine Educator of the CIVB, and Official Sherry Educator of the Consejo Regulador de las DO Jerez-Xeres-Sherry.
